Hire4 connects you with local service providers - bartenders, cleaners, chefs, drivers, movers, babysitters, pet sitters, handymen and more. You can browse, book, pay, message and rate, all in one place.
No. Enter your address on the home page to see service providers near you. You only need a free account when you're ready to book.
We're starting in the Calgary area. If you enter an address outside our current area, you'll see a note and can join the waitlist - we'll let you know when Hire4 opens near you.
Yes. Hire4 works on the web at app.hire4.com and as an Android app. The iPhone app is coming soon - until then, iPhone users can use the website, which works on phones.
Sign up with your email and a password, or continue with Google or Apple. If you sign up with email, we'll send you a code to confirm your address.
Small typos are fine - "bartnder" still finds bartenders.
Use "Change Location" on the home page. Service providers are shown based on whether they travel to that address.
The service provider checked their identity with a photo ID and a matching selfie, done by Stripe. It confirms who they are; it isn't a background check.
Ratings come only from completed bookings. Customers and service providers rate each other without seeing the other's rating first; both ratings appear once both have rated, or after 14 days.
The service provider then accepts, suggests another time, or declines. You'll get a notification either way.
Nothing is charged when you book. About 48 hours before the appointment (or right away if it's sooner) we place a hold on your card for the total. You're charged when you confirm the job is done. If the provider marks it done and you don't confirm or report a problem within 4 days of the appointment, it's confirmed automatically and charged.
You pay the service provider's price plus a 6.5% Hire4 service fee and sales tax (GST). The full total is shown before you book - there are no hidden fees.
Bookings where it's your turn: confirming a finished job, answering a new time the service provider suggested, or approving extra costs. Tap a row to open the booking.
The service provider can send you an extra (materials, extra time or other) with a price and, for materials, a receipt photo. You approve or decline it in the app - nothing is added without your OK. Approved extras are charged with the booking.
When the service provider marks the job complete, you'll see "Confirm the job is done". Confirming charges your card and lets you leave an optional tip and a rating.
Yes, optionally - 10%, 15%, 20% or your own amount, when you confirm the job or within 7 days after. Tips go to the service provider; Hire4 takes no commission on tips (only a 3.5% card processing fee is deducted from the tip).
Profile → Billing History shows every booking you've paid, with the breakdown of price, fees, tax and tips.
Use Book again on your Appointments page. It opens the service with your last duration filled in.
Yes, from the booking page. Each service shows its cancellation terms, for example "free until 24 hours before, then 25%". Cancelling before that time is free.
A late cancellation fee may apply (a percentage of the price set by the service provider, plus the Hire4 fee and tax). The service provider can choose to waive it; if they don't decide within 48 hours it's charged automatically.
You're never charged when a service provider cancels. Any hold on your card is released.
Yes, up to 24 hours before the start time. Either side can suggest a new time; the other side has 6 hours to accept or decline it. You'll see it under "Needs your attention". Closer than 24 hours, cancel instead (the provider's cancellation terms apply).
First, message the service provider - most things are sorted out that way. If not, open a dispute from the booking page and our team will review it.
Use "Send a message" on a booking or a service provider's page. All your chats are under Messages.
Paying through Hire4 is what protects you: holds, receipts, cancellation rules and disputes only work for bookings made in the app. Messages are automatically checked for signs of sharing contact details, paying outside Hire4 or abusive language, and may be reviewed by our team.
An optional, free identity check (photo ID and a quick selfie) done by Stripe - it takes about 2 minutes. Service providers then see an "ID verified" badge on your requests, which helps them say yes faster.
Some service providers - often for in-home work, childcare or senior care - only accept customers who've verified their identity. Get verified from your profile or right on the booking page, then book.
Stripe does the check and keeps the ID photo and selfie under its own privacy policy. The Hire4 app only receives the result (verified or not) and doesn't store your ID. ID checks are for adults (18+), so they aren't available to youth providers.
Sign up as a service provider, or from your customer profile choose "Become a Service provider". You'll add your business details and the area you travel to, connect Stripe to get paid, add a service and set your weekly hours.
Youth providers (ages 14-17) are coming soon - for now service providers need to be 18 or older. When it opens: from age 14, with a parent's or guardian's consent. Enter your date of birth when you sign up and your parent's or guardian's name and email; we email them a link to give consent. Until they do, your services aren't listed.
Customers must be 18 or older. You can resend the consent email from your Home page.
You show up once all of these are true: - Stripe is connected (so you can be paid). - You have at least one service that isn't paused. - Your weekly hours are set. - Your service area is inside our current area (Calgary for now) and covers the customer's address. - Youth providers (14-17): your parent or guardian has given consent.
Your Home page shows a checklist of anything missing.
Customers pay by card through Hire4, and Stripe pays you out to your bank account on its normal schedule (usually within a few business days). You receive the price you set - the Hire4 fee is added on top for the customer, so nothing is taken off your price. Tips reach you minus a 3.5% card processing fee.
The service editor shows what you receive, the Hire4 fee and what the customer pays.
When you add a photo you can drag and zoom to frame it; service photos are landscape (4:3), profile photos are square.
Schedule → Edit weekly hours sets your regular hours; you can block single days off. Booking rules let you set time between bookings, minimum notice and how far ahead customers can book (up to 6 months).
Yes. Connect Google Calendar from your weekly hours (web) or Settings (Android): accepted bookings are added to your calendar, and your busy times can block those slots on Hire4. There's also a private calendar link for Apple or Outlook calendars.
New requests appear under "Needs your response" on your Home page and in Requests. Accept, decline or suggest other times. Customers who verified their ID show an "ID verified" badge.
You choose each service's terms (free until 12 hours to 7 days before, then 5-50%). If a customer cancels late you decide on your Home page whether to charge or waive the fee; undecided fees are charged after 48 hours. You receive the percentage you set.
On an accepted booking, use "Ask customer to approve an extra" - choose materials, labour or other, enter what you'll receive and add a receipt photo if you have one. The customer approves in the app and it's charged at completion. Materials carry a 3.5% fee instead of the usual 6.5%.
Yes - Pause a service to hide it from customers; Resume when you're ready. Existing bookings aren't affected. You can also Duplicate a service to create a similar one quickly.
Profile → Get verified. It's a free identity check with a photo ID and a selfie through Stripe and takes about 2 minutes. The blue Verified badge then shows on your profile and services.
Yes, per service: in the service editor under "Who can book?" (web) or "Verified customers only" on your service card (Android). It may mean fewer bookings, so it suits in-home, childcare and senior care work.
Use "Forgot your password?" on the sign-in page; we'll email you a code to set a new one.
Yes, with one account. Use "Switch to Customer" / "Switch to Service Provider" in your profile menu. (Youth providers under 18 can't book services as customers - customers must be 18 or older.)
Service providers can turn email notifications off in Settings → Notification Settings. Booking updates always appear in the app's notification list, whatever you choose, so you don't miss anything important.
In the Hire4 app, or on the web at app.hire4.com: sign in, open Settings and tap Delete Account. Your profile, services and login are removed; records we must keep by law (for example bookings, payments and receipts) are kept as described in the Privacy Policy. If you can't sign in, use "Forgot password" on the sign-in page first.Service providers can also deactivate their account temporarily to stop appearing in search.
Card and bank details are entered with and stored by Stripe, a leading payments company. Hire4 never sees your full card number.
We use it to run your bookings, payments and messages, and to keep Hire4 safe. We don't sell personal information or use advertising trackers. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Use Feedback in the menu (or at the bottom of any page) - it goes straight to our team. For a problem with a booking, open a dispute from the booking page.
